Preparing matcha is an ancient practice that dates back over 800 years to the Zen Buddhist monks of Japan. Unlike regular green tea where you steep the leaves and discard them, matcha is made by whisking the entire powdered leaf into water β meaning you consume 100% of the nutrients.
The key to a perfect bowl lies in three things: the quality of your powder, the temperature of your water (never boiling β aim for 70Β°C), and the technique of your whisk. Using a traditional bamboo chasen, you whisk in a gentle ‘M’ motion until a silky froth of tiny bubbles forms on the surface.
